New Presidential Election Rules - Your Opinion Wanted
Based on a previous change request, the rules of presidential elections will be changed as of the next elections. This is to summarize the changes and ask for your input in terms of timings.
The old system looked like this:
1. Only presidents of founded parties could nominate themselves or others.
2. Nomination took 3 days, then campaign took 3 days, first round took 3 days and the second round, when necessary, took another 3 days.
The new rules are like this:
1. The election starts with a 3 days nomination & campaign phase. During this, anyone can nominate themselves. All citizens have one nomination vote. All citizens receiving at least 10 votes in this period will proceed to the first round.
2. The first round voting will then start, and take 3 days. The first two candidates proceed to the second round, which takes another 3 days.
As you can notice, there are two changes here:
- The removal of the requirement of party president status, as requested by citizens
- The removal of the separate campaign phase, which in our opinion was too long and proved useless. The campaign period is now merged with the nomination phase.
Under this new system, the presidential elections now take a total of 9 days (6 days in case of a first round winner). We hope these changes make our presidential elections more interesting and exciting, making the process open to more potential candidates.
Your comments are welcome. Please note we won't be able to make significant changes to this system before the next elections, but we might change the length of these phases if that is found necessary.

New Site Infrastructure
The official website of Titulia will be moved to a new architecture. This is a gradual process that will start immediately after the end of the currently ongoing presidential elections and will take a few months to complete. Features will be moved one by one. Apart from improving the appearance and usability of the website, this will also enable us to achieve faster turnaround times for changes. While it is understood that the coexistence of the two architectures will cause some confusion, we decided not to do a one time "bing bang" approach for timing and risk mitgation reasons.
During this process, some new features and changes will be added directly to the new website. Also, some features that citizens deemed useless will be discontinued.
The following features will be moved first to the new website:
- Registration / Log in / Log out - Users register, log in and out in the new site.
- Presidential Elections - From then on, presidential elections take place in the new site. This new election procedure also implements a change request to allow anyone run for president with ten nomination votes, regardless of party presidential status. This basically eliminates the significance of party president status in terms of presidential elections - all citizens who wish to run for president are treated equal. Please also note that the built-in safeguards that try to prevent multiple accounts from voting are now designed to be stricter. More details on this election process will be published in a subsequent post.
- The next major set of features to be moved and changed will be the parties. This will enable citizens to form more kinds of communities with elected leaders, based on whatever criteria citizens wish, e.g. geographical location, interests, etc.
The timing and potential changes of all other features will be published later.
