Introduction:
A lifelong advocate of progressive domestic, labor and land use policies, Andrew Breen has been assisting groups of people in getting organized in order to achieve their immediate stated goals and developing strategies to ensure long term success. His philosophy, whether it is working with the Boy Scouts of America, The American Civil Liberties Union, student and community groups, Unions, or progressive political candidates is “ten years, not ten months.”

Breen holds a B.A. in Cultural Studies with an undeclared dual concentration in Urban Affairs and Foreign Policy from Columbia College Chicago. His undergraduate Senior thesis focused on the democratic, culturally and ecologically sensitive redevelopment of Chicago’s southeast side, specifically those neighborhoods most affected by post-industrialization. In addition to his undergraduate achievements Breen is currently pursuing both a MBA from Kaplan University and a M.Ed. from National-Louis University. He has aspirations to enroll in the University of Chicago’s joint Public Policy and Law program offered through the Harris School and Law School, respectively. He often says a Ph.D. is a possibility but has no immediate plans to pursue one.

In 2007, he was awarded a Young People For Fellowship through the People for the American Way Foundation based on his commitment to grassroots politics and his work toward progressive policy changes in his community and on his campus. He is the recent (2009) recipient of the prestigious Chicago Teaching Fellowship and will be working with special needs children in some of Chicago’s high need schools this fall. Breen was elected to the Student Government Association of Columbia College Chicago three consecutive terms as Departmental Senator and one term as the Association’s Vice President in 2006. In addition to the aforementioned accomplishments, he earned his Eagle Scout Award from in 2001.

Andrew Breen is prepared in mind and resources.
